Christ-followers, how can we best make a positive impact in the tumultuous climate we live in?
- It starts at home.
- It starts within you and your family.
- And of course, it starts with prayer.
If we as individuals do not have a thriving prayer life, then our family will suffer. If our family suffers, so do our communities, schools, states, and finally our nation and world.
The problems we currently face in our nation are not political, racial, or even moral. It is spiritual depravity.
It’s time to get back to basics. It’s time to take back territory that the enemy has stolen.
One way in which to do this is prayerwalking through our homes.
Although you won’t find the word ‘prayerwalk’ in the Bible, walking was a major mode of transportation in biblical times, and clearly, people must have walked and prayed at the same time. When God made a covenant with Abraham, He said to him:
“Look as far as you can see in every direction—north and south, east and west. I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession. And I will give you so many descendants that, like the dust of the earth, they cannot be counted! Go and walk through the land in every direction, for I am giving it to you.” Genesis 14:13-17 NLT (emphasis mine)
I remember the day we first moved into our home. We had waited months for it to be built and now we were going to move in! My family stood on the front porch and prayed, thanking the Lord and dedicating the house for His use. With great excitement we walked through every room, opening closets and cupboards, examining every detail. We walked around the outside, front yard, and back. At first, it seemed like a dream, but over time, we began to take possession of “our” house.
Recently, my husband and I had the blessing and privilege of prayerwalking through the new home of our oldest son Kevin and his wife, Michelle.
Below is a guide I created as we prayerwalked through the home. I suggest involving your entire family. Take turns praying and reading scriptures. Perhaps make copies and highlight in a different color of ink a section/sections for each person.

Prayerwalking Through Your Home
Outside and/or Foyer
Oh, Lord, we acknowledge You as the One true God and creator of all things.
“The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all it contains, You have founded them.” Psalm 89:11
We thank you for the blessing of this home. You are good to us and everything you do is good. (Psalm 119:16)
“Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” Psalm 136
Safety and Protection
Lord, we pray for Your safety and protection over our home and our comings and goings. Set holy angels as guards and surround it with the bloodline of Christ.
“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.” Psalm 34:7
“The Lord will keep you from all harm- he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” Psalm 91
We come against any scheme of the enemy and render it useless in the mighty name of Jesus. No weapon formed against us will prosper and every tongue that rises against us will be silenced and condemned. We are children of God with the mind of Christ and are seated with Him in the heavenly realm and we rest in His goodness and faithfulness.
“But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.” Psalm 3:3
Dedicate Your Home
We dedicate this home and our family in service to you, Lord.
“Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” Psalm 127:1
“But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
Family/Living Room
May our family and all who enter this home sense Your presence, God. We pray peace and prosperity within these walls (Psalm 122:7).
“Whenever you enter someone’s home, first say, ‘May God’s peace be on this house.’ If those who live there are peaceful, the blessing will stand; if they are not, the blessing will return to you.” Luke 10:5-6
We choose to honor You, God with all of our activities and gatherings.
“I refuse to look at anything vile or vulgar.” Psalm 101:3
Kitchen and Dining Room
We thank you for our food and pray that You help us make wise choices about what we eat and drink, our conversations, and what we do for rest and recreation.
“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
Lord, we choose to use our home to glorify You and be hospitable to others.
“Share with the saints in their needs; pursue hospitality.” Romans 12:13
Office/Desk
We honor You God with all of our possessions and business dealings. Everything we have comes from You.
“But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. All of our skills and special talents that we use in our businesses are all given to us by God. He gives us the ability to make money and cut deals. He did it for our parents and mentors and he does it for us too.” Deuteronomy 8:18
And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. yes, make our efforts successful! -Psalm 90:17
Bedrooms
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.” Psalm 4:8
Master Thank you for our marriage, Lord (If married). We choose to honor You as the glue that holds us together. Bless and protect this holy union by Your love, grace, and strength.
“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.” Ephesians 4: 2-3
Children’s Children are a gift from you, Lord. We thank you for choosing us to raise these children. We need your guidance, love, and wisdom to teach them Your ways.
“And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Father, help us to love each other deeply, encourage, and pray at all times. Equip us here in this home to fulfill Christ’s Great Commission and shine our lights wherever we go in the world.
“Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.” Colossians 4: 5-6
We love You and dedicate this home and family to you, Lord.
In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

Del, I hope it provides a prayer guide for families.
Well said! I like George Ottis’ definition of prayer walking as praying for insight on site. I have some great memories pray walking in many different places
Yes, I love that quote! I world change starts with us and our families and then moves outward.
Blessings, Jonathan!
This is such a cool idea Beckie! I know that whenever I pray or worship through the apartment the air around me changes. Same thing for praying at work! This guide is so handy.
Emily, I agree. In fact, it’s a good idea to sing and prayerwalk!

Excellent post, Beckie. It made me stop and think about the areas I most often neglect and those where I’m most often intentional in my prayer time. It’s time to take back what the enemy has stolen and maintain a hedge of protection around what we still have.
Doug, Amen! It’s time to take back territory the enemy has stolen.
I’m so glad you found this helpful.
Blessings on you and yours!
I agree. Prayer works and God never fails to answer in ways we cannot even begin to dream
