As my mom drove the familiar serpentine road to our mountain cabin, I began to doze off until I realized we’d slowed to almost a crawl. I opened my eyes to see my mother hunched over the steering wheel, straining to see. Not only had a dense fog settled over the area, but freshly fallen snow blurred the critical dotted white lines on the highway.
Without the lines, we were in grave danger.
You see the lines were placed in the road for specific purposes: direction and safety.
But what happens when the lines get blurry or disappear altogether? We lose our way and find ourselves in danger.
God’s word is meant to be a trusted line of direction and safety.
What happens when a society drifts away from the lines of wisdom, direction, and safety? To answer that question, all we must do is watch the news or click on social media.
When a law is passed such as the Reproductive Health Act with a 38-28 vote and thunderous applause explodes within the state Senate chamber, we have lost our way.
“There is a path before each person that seems right, but ends in death.”
Proverbs 14:12
Yes, the path is literally paved with “death” in the case of the horrific law that allows a mother to dispose of a baby up to and even after birth. Although I am grieved over the moral and spiritual decline of our so-called modern society, all hope is not lost. Not even close.
Christians, I believe we are standing on a precipice here. We have a critical decision to make.
We can either stick our heads in the proverbial sand, or we can stand up and say, “not on my watch!”
Perhaps, like Queen Esther, we—you and I—are called for such a time as this. Does it really take the deaths of 61 million innocent preborn babies to bring us from our passivity?
Well, I say, enough is enough. I’m taking a stand. I don’t care if it’s “politically correct.” This has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with Jesus.
I’m urging you, fellow believer, please don’t take a nap on this issue. In fact, let’s get back to the basics. You know, those God-ordained lines like the Ten Commandments and ‘love God and love your neighbor as yourself.’
We can do something. There is hope found in God. He hears our prayers. We must repent for the sins of our society and turn our hearts again toward our loving and merciful God.
If the church doesn’t take a stand? Who will, I ask you?
Here is one way we can do something NOW. The event below is happening across the United States.

I also wrote an article for SoCal Christian Voice about a pastor hosting a ‘Day of Mourning’ event. Click HERE to read it.
What are your thoughts? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
Readers, this is an issue close to my heart. I write about abortion amongst other issues in my book series Beauties from Ashes.
Oh, Beckie, this is a development in our country’s wayward course that absolutely breaks my heart. How can anyone, in his or her right mind, support infanticide??? Don’t we have laws against murder? Is it because this poor, helpless baby can’t file a law suit, can’t speak up, that evil can prevail? Praying for God to restore our country’s moral compass, and soon. Feel free to share the poem I recently posted on my blog: https://marthaorlando.blogspot.com/2019/02/conception.html
Love and blessings, my friend!
Martha, my heart is just broken over this. I’m glad you put a link to your poem. Thanks for the offer to share it. We must stand up. We must pray.
Blessing to you and yours.
Amen! It’s time for Christ’s church to stand up for morality and Christian values.
J.D. Yes and Amen! Thanks for taking the time to comment and share this. I plan on attending the event in my area.
I’m in the Minneapolis/ St. Paul area and would love to an event like this around here. I write and write article after article, whew, trying to show and tell about the death language of the devil compared to His light and life. Let me know what to do to help.
Terry, thanks for taking the time to comment. I don’t see that there is an event in your area, however, it might not be too late to start one. Go to the Day of Mourning site (I give a link in this post). Possibly you can even have some Christian folks over to your home or church? God bless you for speaking up for the truth and giving a voice to those who have been silenced!
Oddly enough, people want to do these things, but then they find out it leads to heartbreak. Instead of repenting, they try justifying their actions, continuing the downward spiral into confusion and sadness.
Elihu, I agree. All the more reason for us to make a stand and of course, to pray. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Blessings!
Thank you for tacking this issue and sharing this event, Beckie. Yes, the lines are blurred, but God’s lines stand as truth. Culture attempts to gray-out issues that the Lord declared black and white…open and shut…no debate.
So it’s time the church and Christians step forward to draw a line in the sand. A line of truth based on God’s holy Word and commandments.
Amen, Karen! Thank you for taking a stand. I join you in your efforts and prayers. Blessings, my friend!
Thanks for this, Beckie, it’s always encouraging to see others writing on this difficult issue. I think one of the most interesting things about the RHA is that it’s revealed our nation’s ignorance on currently existing abortion law. The reality is that Roe v. Wade already made abortion legal throughout all nine months of pregnancy for any reason–this law made some changes, but not in the ways most of us assume. My prayer is that these latest developments will wake up the Church to the evil of abortion.
Over the last several weeks I’ve been writing a series about the Shout Your Abortion movement and the assumptions contained within it that even Christians buy into. Feel free to use this as a resource as well. https://gsocarecenter.org/should-women-shout-their-abortions
Thanks again for this!
Mary, Yes, thank you for mentioning that Roe v. Wade already made abortion legal through all nine months.
I have seen some of the videos put out by Shout Your Abortion. I’m sickened. I will definitely take a look at what you’re writing. Thanks for referencing it here.
I am standing with you in prayer.
Blessings!
You are right, my friend, we are born for such a day as this–for this instance of protecting our children, both born and unborn and in the ending of violence throughout our world. Thank you for reminding us of our call to love God’s children.
Katherine, I’m so glad to stand and pray with folks like you!
God bless you and yours<3
