"This is a YA read, but adults will also enjoy and learn from this fast-paced book. I started it with every intention of reading a few chapters before bed. Five hours later I had devoured the entire book. The characters are beautifully flawed and I found myself cheering for them when they couldn’t cheer for themselves. There are some hard, but real, issues addressed in this book. I appreciate that Beckie Lindsey addresses topics that are often ignored and spotlights the reality that there is more going on that what we may ever see with our eyes. This is a great read for teens who are fighting their own battles, as well as adults who would like insight into the struggles of today’s teens and young adults face."

Ways We Risk Welcoming the Devil into Our Lives

One day my two younger children were playing in the backyard when I heard a scream. I rushed to the door as my son and daughter bolted inside. A vicious dog, growling and baring its teeth, was right on their heels! I shut the door just in time. Luckily no one was...

How to Pray from Victory and Not Defeat

I have treasured memories of reading Highlights magazine with my kids. We especially loved the pictures where the goal was to find hidden objects. Remember those? At first glance, we were looking at children walking their dog. But upon closer inspection, the leash was...

It's in the Little Things

It is NOT our anniversary. It’s just an ordinary day. But that’s precisely why I am posting this. Scott and I have learned—it’s in the mundane and ordinary where the extraordinary takes place. It’s in the little things: the weekend chores, the silliest jokes, the...

Speak Life

Remember the old adage, 'Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me'? My first remembrance of hearing it was from an elementary school teacher when I was crying because of what a boy on the playground had said to me. There were no broken bones...

Pull Yourself Up by Your Boot Straps Myth

Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up! Tumbles and stumbles. My worst moments in life. Like the time the short-cut down the embankment proved the wrong way—for me anyway. Flailing legs and arms on display for the whole world. Well, at least the people close by. And the...
