It is NOT our anniversary. It’s just an ordinary day.
But that’s precisely why I am posting this.
Scott and I have learned—it’s in the mundane and ordinary where the extraordinary takes place.
It’s in the little things: the weekend chores, the silliest jokes, the squeeze of a hand, the driving kids to school, and watching your favorite show together. We have been through a lot in 34 years—blessings and difficulties.
Whenever people ask us, “what’s the secret?” We tell them the truth: JESUS IS THE GLUE that holds us together.
You see, when we seek to grow in Christ and model His ways, the natural byproduct is putting others first.
If both the husband and wife aspire to put the other first, the outcome is extraordinary. Easy? No. Worth it? Oh, yeah! ❤️✝️
Friends, it’s in the little things of life where our true character is revealed.
When we think of the ministry of Jesus Christ, we often think of His miracles. But you know what?
Jesus was all about the little things and the least of these, too. And he expects the same from His followers.
Sometimes we make more of an impact for Christ by just being kind to someone who is not kind to us, or giving a hug, or a smile, or opening the door for a stranger.
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”
Luke 16:10
Do you want to grow stronger in your faith? Keep doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
Who knows, those little things may turn into something far greater than you could have ever imagined or hoped for. That’s how our God is. He sees what is done in secret, whether good or bad. He rewards us according to what we do in this life.
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
Galatians 6:9
Ah, yes. It’s in the little things!

Beckie, it is ALWAYS in the little things, the small gestures of love or reassurance, that render all the difference in where a relationship is made, maintained and grows. When we share the love we have been so gracefully given through Jesus, it can’t help but make a difference for the good in someone else’s life. May we keep on keeping on in the faith and trust, doing and saying what the Lord would have us do, and may we continue to meet the miraculous in the mundane.
Blessings!
Well said, Martha! 💕
Beckie — Love this –
Del
Thank you, Del.
So true Ms. Beckie. It’s taking the time to give yourself to others – even in little things – that cement a relationship. As you so expertly stated using God’s word, it is in the giving of ourselves to others that we find the greatest blessings in our own lives. Well said ma’am.
J.D. —Praise the Lord for the little things. “Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights.”
Thanks for your beautiful comment.
Blessings!
Becky, I appreciate your highlighting the “ordinary days.” I remember a sick friend saying what she would give for an ordinary day. I think of that and give thanks for ordinary. I like how you use it to invest and make an extraordinary relationship.
Debbie, Wow! Thanks for sharing about your friend. That give another important perspective.
Blessings to you and yours!
Beautiful post, Beckie! Love your answer to “What’s the secret?” “Jesus is the glue that holds us together.” Amen, friend.
Karen, Little did I know that a meaning for the word “covenant” in the Bible can be translated as “glue.” Our pastor shared this recently. Pretty cool, huh?!
This is so true, Beckie. I love your answer of Jesus being the glue that holds us together. Thank you for this reminder of how the “little things” can make a difference in the lives of others. Love and blessings to you!
Trudy, I’m so glad this post resonated with you. As I said to Karen in the comments above: our pastor recently shared that the word “covenant” can actually be translated as “glue.” Interesting, right?!
Love and blessings to you, too!
The Lesser and the Greater are One.
“And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”
Colossians 1:17 (KJV)
Thanks for another timely Scripture, Carlos! 🙂
Blessings, Beckie!
Great post, Beckie. So true, it’s the little things that make for a good relationship. Mary and I will celebrate our 34th anniversary this November. I’ve had ALS for over 22 years of that so there haven’t been a lot of “big things” 🙂
Tell Scott I think he has a beautiful wife.
Bill, Congratulations to you and Mary for almost 34 years of marriage. You two are an inspiration. I will certainly share with Scott your kind words.
Blessings, my friend.
“It’s in the mundane and ordinary that the extraordinary takes place.” That is true, Beckie, but sadly, we sometimes get so caught up in the rush or everyday life, that we miss the extraordinary. Thank you for the reminder to enjoy every moment in our blessed life with Jesus.
Katherine, I’m working on being thankful for all the little things. I’m glad this post resonated with you. Thanks and Blessings to you and yours!
