This blog post is going to be a bit different. As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I’ve been doing some thinking on what it means to be thankful. I’ve also been contemplating how we can truly show our gratitude to God.
In my search through Scripture, I’ve discovered many ways we can express our gratitude to God. However, there is one thing, in particular, we can do that speaks God’s love language.
One of the best ways to show our thankfulness to the Lord is to do what He says.
When we obey God, we are speaking His love language.
Obeying God’s commands is a way we can thank God now and every single day.
“If you love me, obey my commands.” John 14:5 NLT
“Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome.”
1 John 5:3 NLT
Below is a short video on the subject. I hope you’ll take time to listen.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Beckie, this is such a great post and video. What fresh insight! Love the analogy between your dad and the heavenly Father. Our daughter thinks my husband is hard to buy for as well.
While it is good to say “thank you” to the Lord, showing thankfulness through obedience to His commands, is taking it to a higher level. I love that in Psalm 119.
And beautiful song and voice. Now I know you’re a “triple threat” like you hear people say on reality talent shows. You write, speak/teach, and sing well. 🙂 Hugs and Happy Thanksgiving!
Karen, Thank you, my friend. Praying for a blessed Thanksgiving for you and your family.
Beckie —. Strong post and the video is a nice touch.
I am a lot like your dad — I’m hard to buy for too- lol — but a Tim Horton gift card is always accepted — lol (JK)
Psalm 119:5-7 is a fav of mine too.
I try to be thankful everyday – although the Lord is worthy of my praise – I need to do more of it.
Thanks for your blog. Happy Thanksgiving and that was a last second win by Pittsburgh yesterday.
Del
Del, Psalm 119:5-7 is another thing we have in common 🙂 Of course there’s writing and football. Yeah, it was a last-second win that we’ll take!
Happy Thanksgiving to you, Angie and the family. Indeed, we have lots to be thankful for, my friend.
Beckie, Micah 6:8 is my life verse. Oh, how your testimony here lifted my heart! Yes, God doesn’t want our sacrifice, He longs for our obedience. I know I wake every morning giving thanks to the Lord, and then praying that my will is submitted to His. I do believe, with all my heart, that this is the only way to truly live the life God has given to us.
Blessings, and Happy Thanksgiving!
Sweet Martha, you brought tears to my eyes—your comment as well as your heart to love the Lord.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, my friend!
Beckie, We’ve so much to be thankful for every day, but your message is an appropriate reminder that we can show God through our actions how much we love Him. I feel that our Lord grieves when we sin and fall short, but rejoices when we show our love through our obedience. So thankful for grace–that He loves and forgives when we mess up and supports our perseverance to learn from each mistake and do better.
