WHINING IS A SIN
whine: verb (used without object), whined, whining.1.to utter a low, usually nasal, complaining cry or sound, as from uneasiness, discontent, peevishness, etc. 2. to snivel or complain in a peevish, self-pitying way.
Have you ever thought about whining as a sin? Yikes! I was convicted of this lately when I found myself whining, complaining and murmuring about the construction that is going on in my area. It is literally a crapshoot as to what the traffic will be like. It could take forty-five minutes to get to my destination or two hours. This is so frustrating. But whining wasn’t helping me. As a matter of fact, it was affecting my attitude, giving me a cranky disposition. A bad attitude and cranky disposition doesn’t really reflect Jesus, ya know?

Three Reasons Why Christians Whine
1. Discontentment
Christians are taught to be content with necessities, with what they have, and God’s way. (1 Tim 6:7-8, Heb 13:5. Luke 5:5)
2. Selfishness
They want their way and don’t get it, so they murmur and whine. (James 4:2-3).
3. Habit
Lots of people complain and sometimes we fall into that habit as well. It’s time to replace the habit of whining with thankfulness!
“Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.”
Philippians 2:14-15
TAKE AWAY AND APPLICATION:
Whining is a sin. We must repent of it and ask the Lord to give us thankful hearts and attitudes.
When tempted to whine: Count your blessings, think on a scripture such as
Phil 2:14-15, or Phil 4:8.
Hope this comes out, or over, as intended. Do you ever think that your calling, other that to eloquently and poignantly share His word, might be to step on peoples toes?? Thanks Beckie, for the gentle and effective way you’ve stepped on my toes!!
Oh Ron, the Holy Spirit has a gentle way of stepping on my toes first before I write. Let me explain. I was having some ‘technical difficulties’ when trying to upload this particular post and found myself grumbling and whining! God has a sense of humor, doesn’t He? I had to stop and repent before I even posted this…AGAIN!
