The majority of our nation has heard (many times over) that the Supreme Court has ruled  gay marriage is now legalized in all fifty states.
If you are a bible-believing Christian, you may be wondering, what do we do now?
A simple answer to that question is, we must turn to God and the truth of his word—the bible. Consequently, I believe there are a few things  that will help us when confronted with this issue. Notice that I say when not if, we are confronted.
First: God is still in control. This decision did not catch God by surprise. Before the foundation of the world, He knew this would take place (Hebrews 4:13, Revelation 1:8). In fact, he knows each of the judges by name (Exodus 3:4, Ephesians 1:4). They did not reach their position without God’s knowledge and appointment. That’s correct, His appointment. No leader comes into power without God’s allowance (Psalm 75:7).
Second: Know the truth. It is each Christian’s responsibility to learn the Word of God. We must be able to distinguish truth from lies (1 John 4:1, 1 Thes 5:21-22, Eph 4:14).
Truth will always be truth. The Supreme Court’s ruling does not change the word of God. Nor does popular culture change what is true.
Jesus tells us in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
In John 18:37, Jesus says to Pilate, “You say I am a king. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth.” (emphasis added)
Jesus held to every word of scripture. He never watered down scripture to make it “politically correct,” or more culturally palatable. But he always spoke the truth in love because He is love. And that is what we are called to do.
1 Corinthians 6:9 “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”
Even though homosexuality is not the only sin mentioned, at our time in history, it has been elevated and even celebrated by our culture. However the other sins mentioned are not somehow less than the sin of homosexuality. Sins like adultery, stealing, swindling, etc. Each of those, or any, unrepentant sins are the same to God. They all deserve wrath and keep us separated from God. Homosexuality is different only because our society has made it that way.
Another scripture regarding homosexuality is Leviticus 18:22, however the entire chapter deals with many sexual sins. In fact in my bible, it is entitled, Forbidden Sexual Practices. There are twenty-one verses before even getting to homosexuality.
My point is to be careful not to “cherry-pick” verses from the bible.
Third:  Speak the truth in love. Be respectful and always check your motives before speaking to someone regarding any sin issue. This isn’t about finger pointing. Remember, we are all guilty and deserve death because of our sins. (Romans 3:23). It is only through Jesus that we are saved.
“Christianity is one beggar telling another beggar where he found bread.” T.D. Niles
1 John 18-19 NLT  “Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.”
Forth: Be courageous and stay the course. Our mission as Christians has not changed because of this ruling. That mission is to preach the life-saving message of the gospel. Jesus Christ came to save all humanity from all sin. Homosexuality is only one of the many sins that Jesus came to save us from.
I ask you, as Christians, how can we be caring and loving, and not say anything in regards to sin? Remember sin is what keeps people out of the kingdom of God. We must speak out even regarding homosexuality, and even if it’s not popular. We were called by Jesus to love God, love others, as well as make disciples of all people.
Finally: We have an amazing opportunity at this time in history, to shine our lights and to show others the grace that we received when Christ forgave us of our sins. Jesus is our example and he never shrank down out of fear of what others would say or do. He even warned us that we would be persecuted because of our faith (Matt 5:11).
